Project

Experimental archaeology (exp. arch.) is a field of study which attempts to recreate ancient artefacts or actions, in order to understand and learn about past societies.

It addresses social matters and helps analyze how civilizations and techniques have evolved over time, with the use of science, technology, engineering or history, therefore enabling the bridge between STEM disciplines and the Humanities (the STEAM education approach).

“TraCE: The Travelling Case of an Experimental Archaeologist” is an Erasmus+ Project which promotes experimental archaeology as an interdisciplinary STEAM education approach in the late primary and secondary schools.

Within the framework of the EU’s Digital Education Action Plan (2021-2027), TraCE Project aims to develop interest and advance excellence in STEM disciplines among school students (11-15 years old), and particularly among girls, with the use of exp. arch. as a way to enhance their digital literacy and scientific skills.

It also provides their teachers with training opportunities and innovative pedagogical tools to assist them in the teaching of STEAM subjects, and to promote them as a field of interest for women and girls more specifically.

The Project declines in three overarching objectives which will ensure the successful completion of its mission:

  1. Animated videos on experimental archaeology.
  2. Lesson plans and hands-on activities in STEAM classrooms.
  3. Digital simulations of experimental archaeology.
